What the Sellers love about house & neighborhood:
There are many possible stories as to why a family stays in one house for more than 50 years. With this house, there are so many reasons. The house is so beautiful and comfortable. It wound up being such a lovely place to live and raise a family. The living room, in front of the fireplace, is where we would gather and share our stories about the day. And in the kitchen, we would sit eagerly as our mother taught us the secrets of making pie crusts and other pastries.
And then in addition to the beautiful house, and the beauty of Berkeley, there was the invisible element that was a big part of why our family stayed at the house, long after we both moved out. Specifically, the neighbors and the community on San Antonio Avenue. These people and their caring for one another is a very large part of the reason that our parents never looked for another home. Here they had lovely neighbors, friends, people they watched out for and who did the same for them. People who appreciate their own homes but also know that sometimes, if you are lucky, there is a fabric amongst neighbors and this makes a house even more of a home. It was a very special part of our life in this house, the give and take and generosity that existed out of the front door. What a gift; and a gift that will be transferred to the next owners of 1875.
